Welcome to my blog site, House Wife with Degree. I have chosen this screen name because I am a mother of two special needs children and I my highest level of education is a master’s degree in Human Services. I do not claim to be an expert in any field, but I feel as though I have a lot to offer my readers.
As I stated, I am raising two special needs children, both are boys. One is in his teens and the other is in his last year as a tween. My husband and I adopted our children from the foster care system. Neither were babies when they came to us, our youngest was still a toddler and our oldest was in 1st grade. They were with us for a year and a half before the courts decided we could finally adopt them. Their special needs are quite different from the other; my eldest has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADD, a processing disorder, and Celiac Disease. My youngest has a mood disorder, ADHD, social/emotional delays, and is academically gifted. I also have my own special needs. I am a woman who has been battling bipolar disorder for nearly 20 years. Raising two special needs children, while dealing with my own special needs, has proven to be quite an adventure all on its own.
I am also a proud wife, who has stood by her husband for the past 17 years. He recently retired from the United States Navy, after 20 years of dedicated service. We both have served our country with honor, I say we, because I feel like I am in the military as much as my husband is and many military spouses will agree.
We recently moved from the Virginia to a small town in Nebraska. I say small because I grew up in California and a town with 5,600 people is small to me. No matter the size, we are settling down once and for all and finding a place to call home. The town is nice, the people are friendly, and its a wonderful place to call home.
When you read my blog, please forgive spelling and grammatical errors. I may have an advanced degree, but I do make mistakes. I also seldom reread my blog posts before I publish them. This allows me to put all my heart and soul into each post and I will be less tempted to edit my thoughts and feelings. I thank you in advance for your understanding. However, when I reference a source, that will always be correct.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, I love to share my experiences; to include the good, the bad, and the ugly. I will not write about nifty crafts or exceptional baking tips. My only talent, besides writing, is coloring; which I was doing before it became so popular. I won’t write about cleaning tips or how my children are perfect. My life is busy and many things get set aside for quite some time. I am just a person who wants to share her experiences and thoughts with others.
Please feel free to comment or ask questions, I am here to help the best I can. I think healthy debate is good for the soul, but do ask you be civil toward others. I do not believe I am an expert, but I have taken many classes and seminars, have read a ton of books on numerous topics, and will never state a fact without being able to back it up with research. Some of the topics I feel I am well versed in are; being a military wife, raising special needs children, foster parenting, and having bipolar disorder. I will also share the creative ideas on parenting my husband and I come up with.
My life’s passion has been to help others, and I hope this blog is a way for me to fulfill that passion!!
Thanks for Reading,
